Opportunity Information: Apply for WAW NOFO FY25 02

Pathways to Success: Career Readiness through American Expertise is a discretionary grant opportunity from the Public Diplomacy Section (PDS) at the U.S. Mission in Poland focused on strengthening U.S.-Poland ties through youth development. The program is designed to build lasting connections with emerging Polish leaders by helping high school students ages 16 to 19 develop practical, job-ready soft skills using American best practices in leadership, entrepreneurship, and workforce readiness. The core idea is to give students the confidence and tools to handle both personal and professional challenges with resilience, adaptability, and a proactive mindset, while also deepening their familiarity with U.S. approaches and values in education and career development.

Competitive proposals are expected to lay out a clear, detailed plan of activities spanning up to 18 months, built around skills-building workshops and interactive trainings delivered primarily in person (with virtual elements allowed as a supplement). Every project must include youth leadership development, critical thinking, project management skills, resilience, and structured career guidance. The grant emphasizes hands-on learning and real-world preparation, with examples including workshops or panels on public speaking, problem solving, critical thinking, and career planning; CV and resume clinics; mock interviews; mentorship meet-ups; and guided career exploration through guest speakers, workplace visits, and practical exercises in self-presentation and goal setting. Strong projects should also create tangible deliverables by the end, such as student presentations, project portfolios, or individualized career action plans that show measurable growth in skills and clarity about future pathways.

A defining requirement is a meaningful and visible U.S. connection. Proposals must incorporate U.S. perspectives, organizations, experts, alumni of U.S. government exchange programs, or clearly identifiable American models and best practices. Applications that do not include significant U.S. content will not be funded. The opportunity also encourages active involvement of U.S. business representatives and professionals who can provide mentorship and credible, real-world insights into entrepreneurship and skills-based career pathways, reinforcing the public diplomacy goal of showcasing U.S. experience and building long-term bilateral connections.

Applicants need to clearly describe who they will reach, how many participants they expect, and how recruitment will work. The opportunity distinguishes between primary audiences (students directly participating) and secondary audiences (people reached through participants, such as teachers serving as mentors or facilitators who can carry new approaches back into classrooms). Beyond the formal training, projects are expected to foster ongoing peer networks, mentorship relationships, and sustained engagement that continues after the program ends, supporting longer-term personal growth and continued connection to U.S. values and approaches.

The funding is capped at USD 50,000 per award, with an expected two awards, subject to the availability of appropriated funds and final selection. The grant is administered by the U.S. Mission to Poland (CFDA 19.040). The application deadline is June 18, 2025, and projects may begin no earlier than September 30, 2025.

Eligibility is limited to appropriately registered nonprofit organizations (including NGOs, civil society organizations, and think tanks with relevant programming experience), individuals (including alumni of U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs), and nonprofit or governmental educational institutions such as public libraries, schools, and universities. For-profit entities are not eligible. Organizations must be registered to operate in Poland or, if not, are strongly encouraged to partner with a Polish organization that is registered locally.

Finally, the notice clearly limits what it will not support. Ineligible activities include partisan political programs, charitable or development aid, construction, religious activities, fundraising campaigns, lobbying, scientific research, efforts primarily aimed at organizational growth or routine operations, and projects that duplicate existing programs. The grant is intended for time-bound, outcomes-driven projects with clear objectives and a strong U.S. connection that measurably improve students soft skills and career readiness while advancing long-term U.S.-Polish partnership goals.
